Stamped concrete is regular concrete with a decorative finish pressed into the surface before it sets. The result: a patio, walkway, or driveway that looks like slate, brick, cobblestone, flagstone, or even wood plank for a fraction of what the real material costs. We use commercial-grade stamping mats from Brickform, Butterfield Color, and Proline. Colors go two ways: integral color mixed into the wet concrete (color goes all the way through the slab), and color hardener broadcast onto the surface (gives a stronger, more variegated top layer). We usually combine both for the deepest, longest-lasting look.


Once the concrete is finished and the stamps have set the pattern, we cut in the control joints so the joints hide inside the pattern lines. Then the slab cures for 28 days. After that we come back and apply two coats of a decorative acrylic sealer that brings out the color and gives it a subtle wet look.


Popular Babylon patterns include Ashlar Slate (looks like natural bluestone), Roman Cobble (looks like old Belgian block), London Cobble (a smaller cobble pattern for tighter spaces), and Weathered Wood Plank (looks like an outdoor deck without the maintenance). We can also do custom borders, medallions, and mixed-pattern layouts for a more custom look.


Stamped concrete is not the cheapest option: it runs about $14 to $22 per square foot on Long Island. But compared to real bluestone at $30-$45/sq ft or genuine brick pavers at $18-$30/sq ft with ongoing weed and settling issues, it is the smart middle-ground.
